10 green changes you can make right now

The state of the world and climate change can feel… overwhelming, to say the least. Some people dismiss it with pessimistic thinking like, “I’m just one person, how can I solve anything?”

The truth is, if each one of us owns up and takes responsibility – we can actually make a positive impact and long-lasting change.

These 10 small changes can help us break the vicious cycle of being wasteful and in turn, harming the planet. Even if you do just 2 or 3 of these, you’re making a positive contribution.

1.Don’t use plastic bags at the grocery store! Put your produce directly in your canvas shopping bag or in your cart – you’re washing it at home anyways.

2.On that note, learn to say NO to the bag when you are grocery shopping! Buy yourself an adorable tote bag and never look back.

3.Cancel unnecessary mail. Often, I hear people in my apartment building complain about all the useless mail they get… cancel it!

4.Make the swap from paper towels to rags. You can either buy some or better yet, make some from an old worn out t-shirt or another item you don’t have use for anymore. I love it when things are free, you?

5.Try a shampoo bar rather than buying bottles of shampoo. I just made this change and I love it! I’m using a $10 one from Lush.

6.Always use cold water for laundry. 90% of your washing machine’s energy is used just to heat up the water.

7.Don’t use plastic straws. I bought a pack of 3 stainless steel straws online – they’re so light you can carry them with you.

8.Buy a bamboo toothbrush. Each plastic toothbrush takes over 300 years to decompose! Scary… Bamboo, on the other hand, is naturally biodegradable.

9.Travel in a more sustainable way.

Do you really need fresh sheets and towels every day? It’s excessive. Opt out, and ask for them when you need them.

Bring your reusable water bottle with you. Fill up, and save money while you do it.

Leave it better than you found it – it takes a minute to pick up stray plastic bags on the beach. Likely someone will see you do it, and next time they’ll feel inspired to do it, too.

10.Help your clothes live longer. Your clothing, jewelry, and shoes can be repaired. You shouldn’t be throwing them away. If they can’t be repaired, maybe the material can be used for something else.

If you don’t like the style of something, you should always donate it. Good news – Ardene is having an amazing in-store exclusive that will help you make this change!

Ardene Collective is teaming up with The Salvation Army Thrift Store to encourage you to drop off your gently used clothing and shoes.

WE recycle them, and YOU get 15% off your next purchase!

Find a donation box in your nearest Ardene store and help us change the world… one top – or bottom – at a time!
