Classic ’90s makeup is dominating runways, magazines, street style blogs, and Instagram. You can’t explore on Insta without seeing a metallic glittery eye (we tried a Euphoria-inspired look out for ourselves, keep scrolling to see it!), a trendy brown lip, or a sleek wet hairstyle.
The important question – HOW does the 90’s beauty trend translate into real life? We’ve compiled the top trends, plus tips on wearing them to school or the office –
dark nude lips
When you think of the 90’s, dark brown lipstick is probably one of the first things that comes to mind. All the cool kids were wearing it. And they were pairing it with not much else – maybe just some concealer, brow pencil, and mascara. Drew, Gwen, Claire, and the queen – Cindy. Everyone was wearing it, both on and off-screen.
It took a while for dark lip shades to come back into fashion, but sure enough, they’re back and better than ever! It’s definitely the more ‘bold’ celebrities that are rocking it.
In the 90’s, the “no-makeup makeup” look was born! No more cakey layers of coverage. The idea that less is more was finally adopted for magazine shoots and runways.
The method was: moisturizer first, concealer or foundation on problem areas second, and finish with a thin swipe of loose powder for staying power.
This might be my favorite trend. Why? Because I’m not good at doing makeup, and I don’t want to spend time learning. If I had to create a smokey eye, I wouldn’t know where to start! Whereas with the metallic eye trend, you can just buy 1 or 2 good metallic shadows – wet or dry – and you literally just swipe it on with a brush, or dab it with your middle finger.
You don’t have to be skilled to be good at this look!
And in honor of spooky szn, we tried out a Maddy from Euphoria makeup tutorial.
The Montreal-based makeup artist @mariagrxms recreated Maddy’s look on me. She killed it!
Not all of these trends are for everybody, but certainly one of them will look fab on you. You don’t even need a special occasion, you can rock any of these at school or work. Or just to walk your dog.
